    Hi-

    I’m Katharine Cornfield, and I am really excited to be joining the conversation at TEDxCarletonU.

    I am a local lifestyle blogger, a community enthusiast and a dedicated design thinker. I’m inspired by innovation, crazy about creativity and I thrive on change. I spent 10 years as a political advisor to federal ministers and 6 as a manager in the public service, and I recently decided ditch it all to become a full-time funding-poor entrepreneur. So far, I have had absolutely no use for my detailed knowledge of government machinery, but I do suffer from prolonged bouts of happiness, a sustained sense of motivation and frequent moments of awesome clarity.

    Also, I am by no means scientifically-minded or technologically savvy. So, for those of you who are looking to test your ideas, concepts or cockamamie schemes on a real live layperson with years of experience “filtering”, I hope you will come and find me!

    Until tomorrow,
    Katharine

    Hi all – I’m currently in a place where I get to do a little bit of everything. I’m finishing my masters in Engineering Management and I’m working part time with Manu Sharma and an amazing group of people at OCRI TalentBridge in the realm of entrepreneurship.

    I’m also working on a number of projects and would love to discuss any of them with you.

    Currently sitting on the City of Ottawa Economic Development Steering Committee representing a youth perspective

    Involved with managing the Ottawa Innovation Challenge (OIC 2010) coming the 23rd of April. It’s 48 hours of intense competition in trying to find solutions to real problems of local startups. http://www.innovationottawa.com.

    Taking this experience and leveraging it to help coordinate a TEDxTunis this fall.

    I’m very interested in getting involved in some social entrepreneurship projects – would love to know what some of you are all currently doing. Can’t wait to meet everyone!

    I am a vice principal in the OCDSB. My interests include pulling together a community committed to listening to and honouring youth. I believe that Ottawa has everything we need to provide an incredible learning experience for children and youth, but I think that we need to create stronger connections to foster creative and innovative partnerships in support of our youth. I look forward to the discussions and presentations at the TEDx event tomorrow evening.

    I’m a web security researcher, with a focus on making security accessible, understandable and possible for regular folk. I’m doing some neat stuff that involves taking the way the page looks as a way to make it more secure.
    * My web security blog http://webinsecurity.net

    I’m also an open source developer on the steering committee for the GNU Mailman mailing list manager. This summer, I’ll be mentoring a few Google Summer of Code students who will be working on improved Mailman archives for Systers (who use mailing lists to connect women in technology).
    * Mailman http://list.org
    * Systers http://anitaborg.org/initiatives/systers

    And I do about a bazillion other things, so here’s a few links for stuff I do
    - I write for http://geekfeminism.org
    - I volunteer for http://linuxchix.org
    - I write and take photos for http://cuwise.blogspot.com
    - Photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/terrio
    - Personal website: http://terri.zone12.com
    - Blog: http://terriko.dreamwidth.org
    - Twitter: http://twitter.com/terriko

    And even though the links don’t show it, I’m also a field naturalist. But I keep those notes in real paper notebooks that can handle being dragged around in the rain. ;)

    I’m really looking forwards to meeting new people at TEDx tomorrow, especially people who do really different stuff from what I do!

    I am the Conference Ambassador with Ottawa Tourism. I am essentially a Community Manager and promote Ottawa as an International conference destination. We often need local support to submit a bit to host a conference or even work with local individuals that are thinking of chairing a conference but not sure where to start. I am really pleased to be a part of TEDx Carleton and am looking forward to meeting some wonderful people and hearing interesting and engaging ‘talks’.
