Hey Everyone,

Only a few more hours left until the fun begins!

I’ve been living in Ottawa for nearly twelve years now, working as an engineer involved in one form or another in the integrated circuit (IC, aka semiconductor) design process (see http://www.linkedin.com/in/aplumb).

Now that I have two children and don’t travel quite so much I’ve been turning my focus more locally to see what I’ve been missing and more importantly what might be missing that I can do something about. It’s much easier to get and stay involved when you don’t have to travel out-of-country on a moment’s notice for weeks at a time!

I’ve been helping to get Ottawa ModLab started (a hackerspace; see http://hackerspaces.org/) in collaboration with ArtEngine (http://artengine.ca/). This involves among other things, carting along my MakerBot 3D printer (http://clothbot.com/wiki/MakerBotNumberNine) every other week to bounce around ideas. I’ll bring along some of my fabricated objects (I call them “fabjects”) tonight for folks to get hands-on with.

If you want to see it operational (barring technical glitches), I’ll be doing a PechaKucha Night 20×20 tomorrow night (March 31st) on the subject: http://www.pecha-kucha.org/night/ottawa/2

Later!
